Layer Tennis

Layer Tennis Season 3 Recap from Coudal Partners on Vimeo.

This is Layer Tennis – and it’s awesome! It’s pretty self indulgent designer wank, but you know, i like it! Here’s the official description of what Layer Tennis is…

"What Is Layer Tennis?"

"This is the Third Season of our live design events called Layer Tennis. Matches are played using video, animation, sound, photos, type and lots more, but the basic idea is the same no matter what tools are in use. Two competitors swap a file back and forth in real-time, adding to and embellishing the work. Each artist gets fifteen minutes to complete a “volley” and then we post it to the site live. A third participant, a writer, provides play-by-play commentary on the action, as it happens. A match lasts for ten volleys and when it’s complete, Fans tell us what they think and we declare a winner, so sign up today."

Here’s also a nod to Jim Coudal from Coudal Partners, who’s made me feel a little bit more creative this morning. :)

New addition to our Web Team

During the period where my MacBook screen had gone and before I had taken the plunge and bought my MacBook Pro, I had no option but to hook up my laptop up to my TV to get projects finished. Unfortunately, this resulted in my cat Rufio taking an interest in my work – specifically whenever I was using the mouse (which is all the bloody time)!

I’ve still not checked my TV property since to find claw marks – the little bastard.

a little bit of inspiration…

I don’t often blog on websites that i really like or i find interesting, simply because A: it’s probably only me that’s interested in it anyway and B: it’s detracts a bit from my own work.

However, in saying that, after looking through the awwwards site for some inspiration – I’ve discovered some blindingly good work. The first of which is zeitgeistbot – the content of which i’ve not even taken in really, but just purely blown away by the implementation of HTML5

Zeitgeistbot

The next site is something else altogether, www.messagesforjapan.com is a spectacular site built by Fi and Google – allowing individuals to post messages to the victims of the japan crisis. A beautiful site, were you can see in ‘real time’ people from all over the globe posting messages, and using Google Translate to turn them into Japanesse. I’m not usually so taken by a project, but this is just stunning, definatly work a look..

Killer Idents

I’ve been looking at some video idents recently – getting my creative juicing flowing for the upcoming Wee Bakery site. In the process i’ve been thinking of making my own ident for the well overdue make over of the main gsusonline site.

Anyway, thought both of these we’re separate concepts that really stood out

This is by Peter Northcott – Also, check out his other idents on his vimeo

This ident is by the brilliant WeTheConspirators.

More Star Wars related design

Ok, I know I post up a lot of Star Wars related design, but this stuff is really cool. Their by a designer called Adam Helms, were you can (could) buy these prints via his Etsy store, at $40 is pretty steep, but considering its a set of 3 prints, I’m pretty gutted there’s no more on sale.

Besides, any excuse to vector draw X and Y-wings on a daily basis is a good way to wind away the evenings.
